Why supply and install together is usually better
When you buy the box from one place and pay someone else to fit it, you own the gap between them. If the unit is the wrong capacity, the installer says you chose it. If it fails, the supplier asks whether it was installed correctly. You are the one making the phone calls.

Capacity first. Measured on site, from room volume, glazing, orientation and insulation. Everything else is secondary to getting this right.
Then location. Coastal properties from Maclean out to Yamba and Iluka need corrosion-resistant condenser coils. Inland does not. This alone changes which models are appropriate.
Then how it will be used. A bedroom benefits from a genuinely quiet unit. A holiday rental needs robust, simple controls a guest cannot get badly wrong. A living area running all day is where a higher efficiency rating actually pays back.
Then budget and parts availability. The cheapest unit on the shelf is not a bargain if nobody stocks parts for it in northern New South Wales. In Iluka or out at Nymboida, parts availability matters more than the last few hundred dollars of purchase price.
