Adding power points
Adding an outlet is usually straightforward, and the cost is driven mostly by access. A new point on the same wall as an existing one, in a single-storey home with roof access, is quick. A point on the far side of a two-storey brick home is a different job. We will tell you which yours is before we start.
Where people most often need more: kitchen benches, home offices, bedside for phones and lamps, outdoor entertaining areas, garages and sheds, and anywhere a television and its associated equipment live.
Ask for more than you think you need. The marginal cost of a double instead of a single, or two points instead of one while the wall is open, is small. The cost of adding another later is another whole visit.
Lighting that suits the room
Lighting design is not just a matter of how many downlights fit in the ceiling. The most common mistake we see is a grid of downlights with no thought behind it — which gives even, flat, slightly clinical light and no control.
Layer it instead. General light for the room overall, task light where you actually do things (kitchen benches, a desk, a reading chair), and accent light for atmosphere. Being able to run only the task and accent lighting in the evening makes a room far more pleasant than one bright ceiling setting.
Get the colour temperature right. Warm white around 3000K suits living areas and bedrooms. Cooler around 4000K suits kitchens, laundries, workshops and bathrooms. Mixing temperatures within one open space looks wrong even when people cannot explain why.
Dimmers are worth it in living areas and bedrooms — but the dimmer and the LED lamp have to be compatible. Mismatched combinations flicker, buzz, or fail to dim through the bottom of their range. This is the single most common LED complaint and it is entirely avoidable by pairing them properly.

Are power boards dangerous?
Daisy-chained power boards and double adaptors stacked together are a genuine fire risk. If you are relying on them, the honest answer is that you need more outlets, not more adaptors.
